Understanding Homeopathy on Rootly
Homeopathy is one of the most nuanced and individualized branches of natural wellness — and it's one we take seriously on Rootly.
Unlike supplements or herbal remedies where general guidance translates reasonably well across individuals, homeopathic remedies work differently. The right remedy, potency, and dosing protocol depends on the whole picture — your child's specific symptoms, temperament, constitution, and how their body is responding in real time. What works beautifully for one child may not be the right fit for another, even with the same presenting symptoms.
What Rootly is here for
The homeopathic information on Rootly is meant to give you a starting point — a general sense of which remedies are commonly used for specific symptoms and what to expect from homeopathic support. Think of it as a research companion, not a prescription.
Rootly is not a substitute for working with a qualified homeopathic practitioner. We genuinely believe that for infants and young children especially, personalized guidance from a trained provider makes all the difference in both safety and effectiveness.
A note on dosage
Any dosage information provided on Rootly for homeopathic remedies is a generalization based on common protocols. Dosing for infants and toddlers varies significantly based on age, weight, potency of the remedy, and the nature of the condition being addressed. Please do not treat any dosage shown here as a clinical recommendation for your child. Always confirm dosing with your homeopathic provider before beginning any protocol.

Scientific studies
Multiple rigorous clinical trials have found that homeopathic treatment — when prescribed by a trained practitioner based on a child's full symptom picture — is 1.5 to 2.0 times more likely to produce a beneficial outcome than a placebo, a finding that reached statistical significance in a 2014 analysis of double-blind, randomized controlled trials. In studies specifically focused on young children, three separate clinical trials involving 242 children between 6 months and 5 years of age found that individualized homeopathic treatment measurably reduced the duration of acute diarrhea compared to children who received a placebo. A separate trial of 73 children with ear infections found that children receiving homeopathic remedies experienced a significantly greater reduction in symptom severity than those receiving placebo. When researchers identified and analyzed the 5 highest-quality homeopathy trials conducted to date, they found a combined result that significantly favored homeopathic treatment over placebo — with children and adults in the homeopathy group more than twice as likely to improve. Across all of these studies, researchers noted that results are strongest when treatment is personalized by a qualified homeopathic practitioner, and that while the findings are encouraging, larger studies are still needed to fully confirm these results.
